Creating a Character

If you’re going to play a game of Echelon the first thing you’ll need to do is gather your group of friends and create characters together. Creating characters is an important function to be done together because this is the first opportunity for you to communicate to other Players, including the Game Master, what you expect from your character and for you to understand what the other Players expect from their characters. Sometimes this involves softening or reshaping some character ideas that you may have, most of the time it means playing up those ideas to fill the gaps left by others in your group. Either way, when you start a conversation about creating characters with your friends you will find more success in the game when the list of things the group can do together outweigh the things you can do individually.

Characters in Echelon are an avatar for Players to inhabit the world with. The Player Character (PC) is the conduit in which the game becomes an experience for Players to uncover the world by adventuring, interacting, or fighting their way through it. Character creation is segmented into six major themes split into Narrative Elements and Mechanical Elements. These will guide you to develop the persona and ability of your character that will inhabit a campaign.

The key elements to creating a Character include:

Narrative Elements

1.     Pursuit

2.    Associations

3.    Personality Traits and Profile

Mechanical Elements

1.     Class

2.    Core Statistics and Skill Trainings

3.    Equipment, Items, and Currency
